 The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act of 2020 required the FCC to designate 988 as the universal number for a national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline. On July 16, 2022, the FCC  activated the "988-Call-Text-Chat" as the new Lifeline and Veterans Crisis Line number.

988 offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. That could be:

• Thoughts of suicide
• Mental health or substance use crisis, or
• Any other kind of emotion distress

People can call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org for themselves or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support, no matter where you live in the United States, you can reach a trained crisis counselor who can help.

Established in 2020, members of SFRD were selected by their peers to become part of the Peer Group support system for our brother's and sister's. Together we can help each other heal the wounds sustained on the job. Who else knows how you are feeling on the inside other than a brother or sister who has walked in your very shoes. All matters discussed are 100% confidential and team members are committed to bridging the gap that exists between you and a qualified mental health specialist.
